Stage Fright History

Stage Fright was originally presented as a series of ‘monster monologues’ modestly staged in 2009. In 2010, creator Ryan Pifher, expanded it into a one-act play, then a one-act musical and finally into a two-act musical (with many edits and rewrites along the way!). Now 10 years after the debut of the first full production, Stage Fright: Resurrection will make it's debut featuring the members of Porch Light's Youth Performance Troupe senior company.

Stage Fright (2010) Synopsis

On Halloween night, a group of girls (and one annoying little brother) are out late trick-or-treating. Ellie, Betty, Veronica, Cathy & Timmy decide to stop at one last house before heading home. They had heard rumors of happenings on Samhain Street and the legend of Old Lady Fargus but decided to press on anyway. After a knock at the door, the kids are greeted by Fargus and her band of Monsters - Vampire, Medusa, Mummy, Werewolf, and Headless Horseman (joined by Frankenstein and Igor in later revisions).

The innocent children are captured and held prisoner with the promise that at midnight, they too will be turned into monsters, fulfilling Fargus’s master plan for world domination. While captive, the kids learn that the monsters were once human like them but were turned by Fargus.

As the hours pass and the bond between captors and prisoners grows, the Vampire begins to have second thoughts. But Fargus has tricked the other monsters into believing that the only way they can return to human form is to turn another.

As midnight approaches, the kids are hooked into the machine, ready to be turned. As the clock ticks down and Fargus is about to pull the lever, the Vampire races towards her and bites down hard on her neck. Being the oldest Monster, the Vampire had become so powerful that the bite would defeat and ultimately end Old Lady Fargus.

The kids rejoice but the Monsters go in to attack as their lives are now ruined. The Vampire steps in and explains that Fargus lied and their curse is indeed permanent. Feeling hopeless, the Monsters begin to retreat as the kids suddenly encourage them to be who they are and don’t let their ‘Monster-personalities’ be a bad thing! They all rejoice and head back out into the night to celebrate their first Halloween free from Fargus.

However, it doesn’t last long before the ghost of Fargus returns to remind them… she’ll be back!
